POLICE and council leaders have urged members of the public to report dangerous drivers after suspicious tyre marks were spotted on a busy Dorset dual carriageway.

The marks appear to have been made by a driver “doughnuting”, the term used for spinning a car in circles at high speed.

They have been made on the A35 Christchurch bypass, at its junction with Salisbury Road.

Cllr Hilary Cox, Dorset County Council’s cabinet member for the environment, said: “If there is misbehaviour or bad driving I would ask people to report it to the police so they can do something about it. Anyone driving like this is an idiot and they are putting the lives of other motorists at risk. If you see something happening that is dangerous, it is your duty as a responsible citizen to report it.”

Brian Austin is the project manager for Dorset Police’s No Excuse campaign, which targets all aspects of bad driving.

He said: “The No Excuse campaign welcomes information from the public concerned about road users and their behaviour.

“Project No Excuse responds to intelligence received and uses enforcement to target areas where road safety issues have been identified. Anyone with information and concerns about driving offences and road safety should call 101 or email Dorset Road Safe Partnership directly.”

The public can also use the free and anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111.
