THE MAN killed after being hit by a train has been identified by police.
Robert Stidworthy died when he was hit by a train in Sway in the New Forest on Saturday.
The 47-year-old, from Hordle, had not been seen since the previous day.
Officers from BTP and Hampshire Constabulary attended the railway line near Sway rail station following a report on Saturday, 26 October at 6.25pm of a body on the tracks.
Medics from South East Coast Ambulance Service also attended but Mr Stidworthy was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
His death is being treated as non-suspicious.
Officers had initially been unable to identify the man as he had no identification on him and his fingerprints were not on the police database.
Following a media appeal, BTP officers were able to establish that the man had been reported missing earlier this week.
The man’s family have been informed and an inquest into the death of the man is due to be opened and adjourned by the local Coroner.
