"We're total opposites" say couple who have monochrome Halloween wedding
A WICKEDLY-wonderful wedding took place in Bournemouth yesterday on the spookiest day of the year.
And from the monochrome outfits to a darkly delicious cake, the marriage of Joey Draper and Lolly Lee was a complete one-off.
The couple, who first laid eyes on each other as schoolchildren, were inspired by their love of music and horror films to create a traditional wedding with an unusual twist.
Joey, 26, said: “We decided I’d arrive at the Cumberland Hotel in a black hearse, while Lolly would be in a white 1950s Cadillac hearse.
“We’ve always been an odd couple – I’ve got long black hair and look a bit gothic, while my lovely fiancée looks more like Pamela Anderson, so we’re total opposites.
“We wanted to bring this into our wedding – the cake is half black and half white, and even the bridesmaids and my two best men will be wearing black or white.”
Lolly, 25, first spotted her future husband while the pair were still at school.
“I was the boy on the bus she fancied at school,” Joey said.
“She was the year below me when I was at Portchester and she was at Avonbourne. I was a bit of a weird boy and I didn’t really notice girls at that point.”
The pair met again three and a half years ago, and immediately realised they liked each other.
Joey said: “We met on a night out for my birthday.
“Unfortunately, I was slightly inebriated, and had only given Lolly my first name, so she spent the day searching through every Joey on Facebook until she found me.”
He popped the question in September last year, and the two, who work at neighbouring desks at RIAS insurance company, have been planning their perfect day ever since.
Joey said: “We didn’t want a typical Halloween wedding – cobwebs and spiders and things like that – but we wanted to add our own twist to it.
The flowers are lilies, we have black candelabras, and Lolly’s dress looks like the one in Guns N’ Roses’ November Rain video, which she’s also going to be walking down the aisle to.”
