4:20pm Tuesday 29th October 2013 in News
A GRANDAD smashed his car into Bournemouth town hall this afternoon.
The driver who is in his late 70s did not suffer any serious injuries but he was shaken and left with a cut to his head.
He had been trying to park his blue Honda automatic outside the entrance to the Customer Service Centre at the town hall on St Stephen’s Road around 3pm.
Facilities Manager at Bournemouth Council Miles White said: “The gentleman was very shaken up and he was checked over by paramedics. He did not suffer any serious injuries. We were informed that he was on his way to use the facilities at the town hall.”
Dorset police and ambulance services attended the incident and a recovery service vehicle was called to remove the car.
PC Toni Broadbent said: “We think the accident occurred because he was driving an automatic and his foot got stuck on the pedal. This is quite common with automatic vehicles.
“The gentleman who is in his late 70s was found to have a cut to his head when he was checked over by paramedics, but he did not need to be taken to hospital.
“The car needs to be recovered because it is in a dangerous position.”
