1,000 Bournemouth runners take part in Great South Run
1:00pm Tuesday 29th October 2013 in News
AROUND 25,000 people braved gale force winds when they took part in The Great South Run on Sunday.
Friends Kimberly Douglas and Jo Green were part of a team of seven running to raise funds for PLANETS, a new charity dedicated to defeating Pancreas Liver And Neuroendocrine Tumours based at Southampton hospital.
Jo, a fitness instructor, has been diagnosed with neuroendocrine cancer, and although she can’t be cured, her condition can be managed with support from the charity.
Kimberly said: “The first few miles at the start of the run and the last two miles at the end were the hardest because of the strong winds – it was a case of one step forward then five steps backwards, but we did it and between us we have raised at least £6,000.”
Around 1,000 of the runners taking part in the iconic ten-mile race were from Bournemouth.
