Vicious dogs 'went completely nuts' and attacked my pet, says owner
A POOLE woman says two vicious dogs ‘went completely nuts’ while attacking one of her pets during a morning walk.
Paula Bird, 51, was out walking, Harley, a Shih-Poo, eight-months-old, and Sachi, a teacup Chihuahua, three, along Rossmore Road, on the morning of October 7, when a man came over to her followed by two American bulldogs.
She said: “I was going to the recreation ground, when I man came up to me and said, ‘These aren’t my dogs, but they keep following me’.
“He asked if I would help him look for the owners, and before I could answer, these dogs had grabbed Harley.
He was screaming and crying out.
“I was trying to get them off him, and one of them tore my hand open.
“Two guys came along with sticks to frighten them off, and both of the dogs just went completely nuts.”
Paula says that when she pulled her hand away, it was covered in blood, later requiring stitches in hospital.
However, she says was carrying her other dog, Sachi, who escaped the ordeal unscathed.
“The dogs who attacked Harley did not have anyone with them. I do not know where their owner was.
“If I had had children with me, they would have been ripped to bits. They were really vicious.
“The dog warden traced them to a home nearby and said that the dogs are kept outside by the owner, and had escaped.”
Peter Haikin, regulatory services manager at Borough of Poole, said: “We are aware of this distressing incident, but are unable to comment further at this stage as the matter is being formally investigated.”
