Firefighters' strike is called off
4:24pm Friday 18th October 2013 in News
A FIREFIGHTERS’ strike planned for Saturday night has been postponed by the union.
The Fire Brigades Union (FBU) members planned to walk out for five hours between 6.30pm and 11.30pm as part of nationwide industrial action.
But Dorset Fire and Service has confirmed that the strike has been called off and there will be normal fire cover across the county.
The move came amid progress in talks over pensions. The Government wants firefighters to work up to 60 but this is being objected to by the union.
The Dorset branch of the FBU has just under 400 members, and those on shift were due to take part in the strike.
The Dorset fire service had arranged cover for the strike on Saturday and the emergency response service would have been unaffected.
