More than £20,000 made at Swanage Regatta and Carnival

DONATIONS of £20,000 were made at the Swanage Regatta & Carnival Presentation Night.
The event, held at Swanage Bay View Holiday Park on Friday night, followed bumper Swanage Regatta & Carnival Week attendances earlier this year.
Organisers estimated around a quarter of a million people attended the summer event, injecting millions of pounds into the town’s tourist economy.
The £20,000 raised for charity will be split among various local good causes.
Carnival week brought together a host of events at various sites throughout Swanage, with highlights including a daring Red Arrows display, the main procession on the opening weekend and live music in the marquee.
“It must have been a bumper week for local pubs, hotels, restaurants and takeaways as well,” said carnival committee secretary Linda Welsh.
Carnival chairman Chris Tomes and carnival princess’s Hannah Pound and Lauren Birch joined representatives of the recipient charities at the presentation event.
Charities and good causes to benefit included Swanage & Wareham Rugby Club, Youth Cancer Trust, Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance, Swanage Football Club, Swanage Disabled Club, the local RNLI, coastguards, and many more.
