UPDATED: Part of Poole's Wessex Gate Retail Park cordoned off in unexploded bomb scare

A SUSPICIOUS object which prompted an alert on a Poole retail park has turned out to be the tail fin from a bomb.
Police cordoned off part of the Wessex Gate Retail Park in Poole over to fears of an unexploded device.
Bomb disposal experts say the object, which was embedded in ground not far from PC World, turned out to be a tail fin from a 1,000lb air bomb.
A member of the public called police at around 11.26am today after spotting “a large item with four fins” sticking out of the ground near PC World, and officers evacuated the park and put up a 300m cordon.
A team from Tidworth Troop 721 EOD squadron of the Royal Logistics Corp recovered the tail fin.
Sgt Iain Fraser from Poole police station said had it been a complete bomb, police would have been required to clear a two-mile radius.
No shops were closed during the drama.
The cordon took in car parking to the side of PC World, near the wooded area where the suspicious object was found.
A Dorset Police spokesman said: “It was described as around three feet long, with four fins, looking like an unexploded bomb, with fresh paint on it."
The A349 Broadstone Way remained open.
