Former travel boss celebrates diamond wedding anniversary
WELL-KNOWN former travel boss John Plank and his wife Marion celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary by renewing their vows.
They were joined by family and friends for the celebration held at the Chewton Glen Hotel in New Milton.
Mr Plank is the former owner of John Plank World Travel, which traded successfully in the Bournemouth and Poole area from 1969 until 1990. He had moved to Bournemouth from London to work for Thomas Cook before becoming the youngster manager in the country for Allens Travel at the age of 25.
When he set up his own business, Mr Plank prided himself on offering the personal touch and luxury travel around the globe.
After retiring from his own business, Mr Plank then spent five years as director of business travel at Bath Travel before retiring and spending more time at his home in The Avenue, Poole.
“We had a wonderful anniversary celebration” he told the Daily Echo.
“We booked into the hotel’s bridal suite, then renewed our marriage vows before enjoying champagne and dinner.”
Mr Plank, 84, and his 83-year-old wife have one daughter, Debbie, and two grandchildren, Ben and Charlotte, who were all present for the anniversary party.
