Motorists stuck in hospital car park warned they could be there for "three hours"
MOTORISTS have faced traffic chaos between Bournemouth and Christchurch today after a bus broken down at the Fountain Roundabout.
Police were at the scene to direct traffic until recently, but there are still reports of mayhem on the roads, especially at Bournemouth Hospital where people have been stuck for more than an hour.
At the Royal Bournemouth Hospital, transport for discharged patients has been delayed by the queues.
Tracy Hall, head of communications and fundraising, said: “We have made plans to keep the discharge lounge open late if needed for people who are waiting to be picked up, although it seems to be easing now.
“I can't remember when the traffic has been as bad as this before, the queue comes right into the car park. It usually gets bad when there are multiple crashes.”
She said the traffic had not caused any further problems at the hospital.
He said that the recovery of the vehicle had been more complicated than expected, and part of the road was closed for much of the afternoon.
Traffic at Hurn is also very slow, with reports of an accident at the Avon Causeway, although this has not been confirmed.
And traffic on Parley Lane is also heavier than usual around Chapel Gate.
One motorist reported being trapped in the car park at Bournemouth Hospital for over an hour at 4.30pm.
And others, still waiting in the car park, say they have been at a standstill for an hour and a half.
