CLIVE Wilcox's widow says no prison sentence will ever be enough for the pain Daniel Scott has caused over the last 12 years.

Today she saw the fugitive jailed for five years and one month for Clive's manslaughter and using a fake passport in a bid to evade justice.

Angie Laundon was out celebrating with father-of-two Clive and friends when he was felled by a single punch and suffered a fatal brain injury.

Angie can still remember when Clive was felled outside One-Stop in Moordown Road, Winton, on Friday May 4, 2001.

She said: “Arms were going up in the air. The next thing Scott had punched Clive and he crashed to the ground. It sounded like a sack of potatoes hitting the ground.

“I ran over and started slapping Clive on the face telling him to get up. His eyes were normally piercing blue but they had gone brown.

“I can remember Danny standing there. He looked pretty shocked about what he had done and then he ran off.”

Clive was rushed to hospital but tests revealed negative brain activity. His family dashed to the hospital to say their last goodbyes. He passed away on Saturday May 5.

The following morning Scott caught a train to Liverpool and soon after left the country. It is Angie's belief he knew full well Clive had died.

“He knew he had a chance then to hand himself in. He knew he'd killed him.”

Angie said she was shocked when a police officer visited her earlier this year in June with the news they'd made an arrest.

“Straight away I knew they had him. He would have known for 12 years that Bournemouth police were coming for him - I was so shocked that they'd finally caught up with him.”

Angie said it was “utter relief” when Scott was charged with Clive's manslaughter. “When I saw his picture in the paper I thought what a pathetic, week, feeble man.”

Angie and Clive had been together for around 11 years and married for four when he died.

She said: “Clive simply loved life. He loved his family and loved big family get-togethers. He loved his food and entertaining.

“He was so very caring and generous - he took care of me and would spoil me.”

Speaking about Scott, Angie said: “He's made us suffer for over 12 years. We've had to deal with not knowing whether they would ever catch him.

“I think he should go to prison for at least 12 years for the 12 we have suffered.

“He should live with the pain Clive's parents have suffered. He was the apple in his mother's eyes. She always lit up when she saw Clive. That night Scott took her little boy away. Whatever sentence he gets it will never be good enough.”

Angie thanked everyone who has supported both herself and the family over the last 12 years.
