Talks over Heatherlands estate threatened bus service postponed
A COUNTY council discussion that could determine the fate of a threatened bus service has been postponed.
The 844 bus service, which is used by many children living in Ferndown’s Heatherlands estate as school transport, may stop running after a proposal by Dorset County Council to remove the subsidy paid to maintain it.
If councillors decide to cut the funding, the future of the service will lie in the hands of the bus company.
Heatherlands is inside the three-mile radius that allows children free school transport, and the service is discretionary.
Furious residents had been writing letters of complaint to the council ahead of Wednesday’s cabinet meeting.
However, the item was removed from the agenda at the eleventh hour to allow a longer consultation process.
Councillors will now discuss the issue at the meeting on Wednesday, November 6.
