Firefighters rescue horse stuck in ditch

FIREFIGHTERS battled to rescue a horse stuck up to its shoulders in a muddy ditch this afternoon.
A crew from Ferndown and the technical rescue team from Poole were called to a field near St Leonards after the four-year-old mare was spotted by a member of the public.
But after much hard work, the horse, which was sedated by a vet before work to free it began, was rescued and led back to its stable.
A Dorset Fire and Rescue spokesperson said the horse had managed to escape from a field at a nearby equestrian centre.
"The mare was stuck up to her shoulders in a muddy ditch containing water which was approximately two-foot deep," he said.
"Strops and lines were used to secure the horse. She was then released by manual hauling. Thankfully, the horse recovered well and is fine. The vet rehydrated the horse intravenously."
