Gruelling off-road Studland Stampede for runners of all levels
SOCIAL runners can rub shoulders with first-class endurance athletes on the sand of Studland Beach for this year’s Studland Stampede.
Now in its ninth year, the event is all set for another gruelling race along the South Dorset coastline, with people from far and wide expected to run out in their muddy trainers and serious moisture-wicking fabrics to take part in the race.
A tough, 12km, off-road running event, the race takes place in conjunction with the National Trust each year, with the stunning location making the route a perfect escape from urban madness, but still creating its own challenges to test the hardiness of its competitors.
The Stampede attracts competitors of all abilities, many of which join the race year after year to tackle this tough route with sand dunes that require a large amount of grit and determination.
With a strict limit of only 500 participants, set to preserve the fragile heathland, the event is expected to fill up fast so advanced entry is strongly advised.
This year runners will again be rewarded with fantastic goodies from the National Trust, LUSH cosmetic company and Dorset Flapjack Company and Cotswold Outdoors.
“Runners tend to tackle the challenge in one of two ways, some embrace thesand by taking off their shoes and socks and running in the wash along the shoreline, while others keep their heads down and grit their teeth and battle to the finish line,” comments Victoria Turner the co-organiser of the Studland Stampede.
Thousands of people visit Studland’s beautiful beaches and heathland each year for a variety of different endeavours such as sunbathing, water sports, nature exploration, mountain biking and horse riding.
With the abundance of off-road tracks and spectacular views in every direction it is not hard to imagine why it has been host to one of Dorset’s most scenic off-road running races for the last nine years.
This year’s Studland Stampede takes place on Sunday, October 13, at 11am. To register, or to find out more about the event, visit studlandstampede.co.uk
