Shock after woman mugged in broad daylight in Christchurch
CHRISTCHURCH residents have reacted with shock after a young woman was mugged in broad daylight near the high street on Monday.
The local woman, who is believed to have been carrying the takings from Costa Coffee in Saxon Square to the Post Office, was shoved to the ground by an unknown man in Ducking Stool Lane.
The victim was uninjured, but her robber made off with a bag of cash. The incident took place near the back of the Olde George Inn in Millhams Street at about 12.40pm. DI Steve Thorpe of Dorset Police CID said the victim was left extremely shaken by her ordeal.
Local resident Chris Palmer, 52, pictured, saw the aftermath of the incident.
“I just came out and saw the girl talking to the police. They must have got there very quickly,” he said.
“Not long after that the local sergeant was out knocking doors asking if anyone had seen anything.
“I think the police were as surprised as the residents.
“It is like a little village round here. Most people don’t even know we are here unless they go to look at the ducking stool, and that is mainly elderly tourists.”
DI Thorpe added: “I am appealing for witnesses and anyone who may have seen this robbery take place, or has information about the person responsible to call Dorset Police in confidence.”
The offender is described as a white man, of medium build, around 5ft 6ins tall, wearing a white top with the hood pulled up over his head.
Contact police with information on 101 quoting incident number 23:213, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
