A PAIR of thieves took a woman’s mobile phone as she lay in the street after a road accident.

The 29-year-old victim was lying in the road with a fractured collarbone and leg when the thieves struck.

She had been involved in a collision with a moped while crossing Holdenhurst Road outside the Lion’s Head pub at around 1pm on Tuesday.

As she lay with some of her possessions around her, a couple took her phone and ran off towards the Springbourne roundabout.

East Cliff and Springbourne councillor Michael Filer called the crime “absolutely horrible”.

“That really is scraping the barrel in human behaviour,” he said.

“I wish the police every possible success in finding these people as quickly as possible. They don’t deserve to be at liberty in our society.

“I sincerely hope that the victim will make a speedy recovery and I urge anyone who has any information to give the police to do so immediately.”

PC Toni Broadbent, of Bournemouth police, said: “I am appealing for anyone who witnessed this theft or has information about the couple who stole the victims’ mobile phone to call Dorset Police.

“This callous act has been carried out while she lay helplessly in the road following a road traffic collision, and we are extremely keen to trace the offenders.

“The mobile phone taken is a large Samsung model, and I am keen to hear from anyone who may have been offered this type of phone for sale in strange circumstances or for an unusually low price.”

The first suspect was a white man in his 40s, with fair, cropped hair. He was wearing a light green, collared jacket which was zipped up to the top.

The second offender was a woman in her 50s wearing a white cardigan with stars or snowflakes printed on it.

Anyone with information should ring police on 101, quoting incident 17:181, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
