Soccer starlets sought for AFC Bournemouth's second ladies team
SKILLFUL women footballers are being asked to come forward after AFC Bournemouth started a second ladies team.
The football club now has a team in the Dorset League to add to the one which has been competing in the Hampshire League and is looking to capitalise on the game’s new popularity with women.
Darren Clarke, who manages the new Dorset league team, said football had become so popular locally that they had more than enough players for one team, but now need more ladies to complete the new one.
He said: “We are very close to having enough for two squads but some of our ladies are from Bournemouth University and if they go home on some weekends that can leave a gap.
“We just need some more players to finish it off nicely.”
Last weekend the Dorset League team had 10 players after a Icelandic player was unable to make it from the airport in time.
Darren said the game is growing “ever more popular” with women with strong teams across the county, particularly in Dorchester and Parley.
He said there were lots of women interested but he and the Hampshire league division three coach Vince Taylor were looking for “top quality players”.
He said he could direct new players to places to play but it would be unfair for some newcomers to the sport to try at the league standard they play in.
Anyone interested can email Darren at afcb.ladies@hotmail .co.uk, with matches on Sundays at 2pm and training on Thursday evenings.
