UPDATED: Detectives in appeal for help after man found in Springbourne with life-threatening head injuries
DETECTIVES are appealing for information after a man was found with life-threatening head injuries in a pub car park.
Police revealed that the 61-year-old man, identified by pub staff and patrons as Richard Doherty, was found just after midnight on Sunday outside the Cricketers Arms in Windham Road, Springbourne.
Mr Doherty was taken to Southampton General Hospital with potentially life-threatening head injuries, a spokesman said.
Dorset Police are now trying to establish how he suffered his injuries, and are asking anyone who witnessed what happened or has any information to contact them.
One of the pub patrons, who asked to remain anonymous, said doctors were unable to determine what happened, and officers knocked the doors of neighbours this afternoon searching for more witnesses.
Detective Sergeant Andy Bell, of Bournemouth CID, said: “I need to find out what happened.
“I urge anyone who has any information about an incident in the area on Saturday night or the early hours of Sunday morning and any witnesses to contact Dorset Police urgently.
“All calls will be treated in strictest confidence.”
The pub is thought to be the oldest in Bournemouth and recently celebrated its 165th anniversary.
Witnesses and anyone with information should call Dorset Police in confidence on 101 quoting incident number 09:476.
Alternatively, call the free and anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111, where mobile phone tariffs may apply.
