LAST week saw the launch of creative co-working studio Nest Space in Bournemouth.

The studio, situated at the top of Bath Hill just a few minutes from the beach and Bournemouth town centre, is Dorset’s first co-working space which enables entrepreneurs to grow their businesses by working in an energetic, collaborative atmosphere with people from a wide range of creative disciplines.

Photographers, designers, writers, programmers and artists who want to use the space can sign up for as little as £15 per day, paid monthly on either a part-time (up to two days per week) or full-time (five days per week) basis.

Nest Space’s light-filled studio offers co-working space for around 20 people (spaces are limited to encourage a friendlier atmosphere) and a multitude of benefits including networking opportunities, meeting space in their “Imperial Command Centre” – so called because it features an impressive Danish-oiled hardwood table that can accommodate up to 15 people – and a separate Make Space for running or taking part in group workshops and hands-on analogue activities.

Taking a space in a co-working studio is low-risk, and a great benefit to those who freelance or work independently, as it means you get to meet lots of new people and get involved in many different projects as a result.

Nest Space’s director Jill Adams told the Echo: “The great thing about co-working is the support and camaraderie that you get from other people who are working on similar creative projects. Every day you get writers talking to computer programmers, or comic book editors talking to photographers.

“There’s such a variation of creative talent in a co-working space, and people that you wouldn’t come into contact with if you worked from home.

“Bringing them all together in an amazing space like this and seeing the connections that people make and the work they do as a result is incredible.”

Co-director David Stroud added: “Being able to run proper client meetings in a space right next to your desk, or step away from your computer and get hands-on with some physical projects is also really good for boosting your productivity and creativity.

“It also helps to separate work life from home life if you work in a professional studio and being just a few minutes from the beach and some of Bournemouth’s great bars and cafes is just an amazing bonus!”
