Tributes paid to tower block fall victim, Jason Kelly
4:00pm Tuesday 10th September 2013 in News
THE neighbours of a former Bournemouth man who fell to his death from a Southampton tower block balcony have paid tribute to him as a ‘lovely guy’.
Jason Kelly plunged five storeys from Holyrood House in the Holyrood Estate and died at the foot of the block despite paramedics’ attempts to save him.
A coroner opened an inquest into the 43-year-old’s death six days after he fell from the nine-storey tower.
Witnesses described seeing a chair tumble from a window and then Mr Kelly plunging from a balcony.
Neighbours say he moved to the estate four months earlier from his home in Bournemouth where his mother and family live.
He is believed to have returned from a trip to Bournemouth in the days before his death.
Leon Sails was leaving his third floor flat when he heard Mr Kelly fall and rushed to his aid. The 28-year-old car valeter said: “It’s totally devastating and it’s had a real impact on me. He was a nice person and I spoke to him quite regularly and in the past I have given him furniture to help him out.
“It’s quite scary and I have found it difficult sleeping as I keep thinking about it.”
Leon’s partner Cindy Vokes, 25, said: “He was a lovely guy and his mum must be devastated.”
Shalom Bhopal, who works at a nearby Texaco garage, said it was ‘really sad news’.
