Ed Miliband to speak at TUC conference tomorrow
10:00am Monday 9th September 2013 in News
THE TUC arrived in Bournemouth on Sunday with a call for Labour and the unions to “shake hands and move on” from their recent rows.
The TUC Congress is bringing more than 500 delegates to the BIC and will hear Labour leader Ed Miliband speak tomorrow. He may face a rough ride over his plans to reform the relationship between the unions and his party.
General Secretary Frances O’Grady said both sides should concentrate on issues such as low pay, zero hours contracts and jobs.
She said after arriving in Bournemouth: “Most people are worried about big business and wealthy individuals having too much power in politics and influence over policy. 'They want to see more nurses and car workers in Parliament, and Westminster to get to grips with living standards.
“My advice would be – shake hands and move on and start talking about the issues that people are worried about such as poverty pay, zero hours and jobs.”
Ms O’Grady said she believed Labour leader Ed Miliband would be well received by delegates.
