Decathlete's bike stolen as he visits terminally-ill mother in hospital
THE theft of an expensive road racing bike from the grounds of Lymington Hospital has brought an urgent appeal for information from police.
The cycle was locked and secured in a wooded area by a 51-year-old Bursledon man, who was visiting his terminally-ill mother at the hospital on August 26. Sometime between 9.15am and 1pm the bike was stolen.
The cycle’s owner is a member of the Great Britain Decathlete team.
Police said it was one of a kind, a bespoke Portuguese-made Valdemiro carbon fibre bike. It has a white saddle and handlebars, deep, very thick carbon fibre rims and Michelin pro three tyres. It is predominately red, black and white, with the word Valdemiro written on the forks and frame in two places.
PC Simon Wickson is leading the investigation to find the bike.
He said: “This is a particularly cruel theft because the owner was visiting his mother at the hospital. The theft was in broad daylight outside the front of the hospital. The bike is one of a kind and could not be sold on easily.
“If anyone has seen the bike or been offered it for sale, please contact the police.”
Anyone with information about the bike and its theft is asked to ring PC Wickson at Lymington on 101.
