Countdown begins to Swanage Blues and Roots Festival
THE clock is ticking down to the start of the 20th Swanage Blues & Roots Festival.
Several Swanage venues are set to host acclaimed blues performers during the event that attracts thousands of visitors to the historic seaside town.
This year, 30 acts will play 15 indoor venues, alongside open mic sessions and street buskers.
Among the names performing will be the Robin Bibi Band, Will Killeen, Zoe Schwartz, The Elevators, the Dan Sowerby Band, Voodoo Chilli, The Mustangs and C Sharp Blues.
The first Swanage Blues Festival started off as a birthday party for a local blues fan, but it rapidly grew thanks to the work of event organiser Steve Darrington.
“Nowadays I organise these festivals for us all to enjoy, and sometimes I get to play a little too,” says Steve.
Wristbands, costing £10, and programmes, costing £1, are already on sale and 60 gigs are promised across the three-day festival.
The event remains free – the wristbands are not compulsory, but were introduced in a bid to help Steve keep the popular festival going.
In previous years blues fans from across the world have make a point of supporting the festival, which takes place on October 4, 5 & 6. Visit Swanage-blues.org for full details about the event.
