Drain covers stolen in Bournemouth puts "residents safety at risk"
10:30am Thursday 5th September 2013 in News
A SPATE of gully drain cover thefts across Bournemouth has resulted in council calls for vigilance.
The covers, which prevent people falling into drains while allowing surface water through, have been taken in Gainsborough Road, Littledown Drive, Yeomans Road, Kings Park Central Drive and several car parks over recent days.
Bournemouth Council is in the process of replacing the covers with more secure features but are asking people to be careful when walking on the pavements and to report any suspicious activity.
Councillor Michael Filer said: “The stealing of these drain covers puts the safety of residents at risk, so we encourage people to get in touch if they spot anything suspicious or if they are offered any scrap metal from these drains.
“In the meantime our Street Services team will be replacing the covers and frames as quickly as possible.”
