Anger after disabled car parks close before Night Air display starts
AN Air Festival spectator has criticised organisers for closing disabled car parks last night before the Night Air display got under way.
Keith Goodwin, 64, had travelled down from West Moors to watch the display with his disabled wife, but when they arrived at the car park on East Overcliff Drive at around 7pm, they were told it was closed for the night.
They then drove around to another disabled car park, advertised on signs from the railway station, on Sea Road by Boscombe Pier.
However this was also closed, and the pair ended up having to watch the display while parked on double yellow lines in the road.
“I think it’s diabolical to have two massive car parks empty after they had designated them for disabled people,” he said.
“The other car parks were full, but these were empty and we were just told they had been shut at about 6pm.
“If you can walk it is not a problem, but if you can’t, and you can’t park near the beach, then you can’t see the festival.
“A lot of disabled people just want to sit in their cars in the car park with a thermos and watch the planes.”
