CCTV: do you know man wanted in connection with policeman con?
DETECTIVES have released CCTV footage of a man they want to speak to in connection with a callous con on an elderly couple.
A fraudster, who impersonated a policeman, targeted the elderly pair at their Poole home on Tuesday.
The victims were at their address in Guernsey Road, Alderney, when they received a telephone call from a man claiming to be a police officer.
However, Dorset Police confirm this officer does not exist.
He told them that two men had been arrested and were in possession of their bank details.
Believing they were speaking to a genuine policeman, bank cards and pin numbers were handed over to a courier during the duration of the call. An amount of cash has since been withdrawn.
Detective Constable Al Marks, of Bournemouth and Poole CID, said: “Following further enquiries I am now able to release a CCTV image.
“I am very keen to speak to the man pictured as he may have information which may assist in our investigation.
“If anyone recognises him, I would ask them to contact me urgently. I would like to remind the public that a real police officer would never ask for bank cards and pin numbers to be surrendered and I ask the local community to be extra vigilant for this type of crime.”
Calls like this should be reported to the police Action Fraud line on 0300 123 2040.
Anyone with information on the man in the CCTV footage should call Dorset Police on 101 quoting incident number 20:550.
