Now you can charge your electric car while you shop 'til you drop at Castlepoint

BOURNEMOUTH’S Castlepoint Shopping Park is the first of its kind to offer free electric vehicle charging for customers.
Two “green” car park spaces with charging points on the upper deck car park near the Marks & Spencer entrance have been installed at a cost of £2,000 as part of Castlepoint’s green profile and to encourage environmental responsibility in the town.
Bill Riddle, operations manager at Castlepoint, was joined by Sallyann Tanner, electric vehicle relationship manager for local dealer Westover Nissan, to launch the new facility and plug in her Nissan LEAF to the power supply.
Bill said: “You could say we are giving power to the people.
“The advice from Sallyann regarding the green spaces has been appreciated and the stun-ning economy provided by the Nissan LEAF has already been put to the test by Peter Matthews our general manager, who has used the comfortable and silent car on a 65-mile business trip.
“We hope that as more people turn to electric vehicles we will see the free charging being expanded to other spaces.”
Sallyann Tanner said that she was pleased that Castlepoint has embraced the need to cater for electric vehicle owners.
“The LEAF costs from just 2p to run per mile, compared to 16p for a similar-sized, diesel fuelled vehicle.
“Electric motoring stacks up financially, especially when so many of us are having to watch our wallets at the checkout.”
The free charging will be unlimited so customers can top up their batteries while shopping.
