UPTON Carnival proved to be a sea of colour on Saturday as people of all ages took part in the annual event.

Floats of all shapes and sizes travelled from Factory Road and along Dorchester Road, to Lytchett Minster Rugby Club, where a fete complete with football games, dog shows, stalls and more was available for families.

Upton in Bloom, Wessex Majorettes, Christchurch Cruiser Club, and 2Shoezzumba were just a few of the groups and organisations who were part of the carnival procession.

Harley Davidsons, characters from The Wizard of Oz and kids dressed up as different animals were just a few of the delights who danced and cheered to the sound of the marching bands.

Mabel Fraser, Co-Chair of the Upton Carnival Committee, said: “The event this year was a lot bigger than last year, which we are pleased at.”

She added: “All of the local schools were involved, so it meant that mums, dads, aunts, uncles and grandparents turned out to see their child in the carnival.

“We were absolutely overwhelmed with the support that we have received from the community and we are very lucky that all of the schools, both the Infant and Junior Schools, and the under-fives got involved.

“We also had the Prom King and Queen of Lytchett Minster School who were in a horse and carriage like Prince William and Kate Middleton, and two children picked from a raffle at the schools.”
