THIS eye-catching piece of automotive art is the latest creation of Poole’s custom king Andy Saunders.

Andy, who is known for his wacky car-related creations, was asked by Nissan to do the latest project for an advertising campaign for its electric Leaf model on the back of changes to the London Congestion Charge.

The car nut worked flat out to build it in just three weeks before it headed to the capital.

Andy, who owns Kampers and Kars at Ringwood Road, Poole, said the latest commission came on the back of a project last year that saw him asked by Top Gear and Nissan to build a road-going version of its Deltawing racing car.

“The only criteria I had was that they wanted a skip with three cars in and they gave us the cars.

“The first problem was trying to find a skip, but I was lucky and found a firm at Hurn Industrial Estate. I had to try to visualise which size one I needed to fit three cars in. I came up with the dimensions of it and they made it for me – they said it was the biggest one they had ever made,” said Andy.

He then set about fitting the three crash-damaged cars into the skip.

Andy added: “They only gave me three weeks to build this; the first week was organising, locating and purchasing.

“Each car is bracketed and welded to the skip, so they won’t ever move. The last week was crazy, but when it went to London they put it by the London Eye for photos and I’ve never seen so many people around something, so it really caught people’s attention.

“They’re already talking about their next one for me.”

Now the industry’s ‘go-to-guy’ for such outlandish projects, over the years Andy’s creations have included a car that was just 21 inches tall, a two-seater Mini and a Citroen 2CV inspired by Picasso.
