A DRIVER was rescued after a car left the road and plummeted down an embankment.

One person sustained serious injuries in the crash and was taken to Dorset County Hospital.

Emergency services were called to the A35 on the Dorset-Devon border on Saturday night after a member of the public called 999.

One vehicle was involved and had landed on its roof in a field at the bottom of the embankment.

Fire crews, which included firefighters from Lyme Regis and Charmouth, used a winch to stabilise the vehicle allowing the driver to be released without the use of cutting gear.

A spokesman for Dorset Police said: “A report of a one vehicle road traffic collision came in at 8.34pm from a member of the public.

“The location was the A35 eastbound carriageway about one mile from Raymond’s Hill, Lyme Regis.

“The vehicle had left the road.

“One person sustained serious but not life-threatening injuries and was taken to Dorset County Hospital.”
