Five people were seriously injured when a fight broke out in Selby.
Police said between 15 and 20 men and women were involved in the brawl in Selby Market Place, at about 3.30am on Friday, and six people were arrested.
Five people needed medical treatment for serious injuries, and Yorkshire Ambulance Service spokeswoman said three people were taken to hospital, all with facial injuries.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said investigations were ongoing, but weapons were not believed to have been used.
One resident, who did not wish to be named, said he was woken at about 5am by the sound of a police helicopter over the Brayton area.
Three women, aged 20, 21 and 22 from Humberside, and three men, aged 21, 22 and 28, from West Yorkshire, were arrested on suspicion of affray. All remain in police custody.
Det Sgt Ash Khan, of Selby CID, said: “This behaviour is wholly unacceptable and not something we will tolerate. I know that there was a large number of people in the area at the time. I urge them to contact the police if they have not already done so, as I need to speak to them about this incident as soon as possible.”
