Last Tuesday’s leading article described as “petty point scoring” the Green Party’s undoubtedly accurate assertion that the current disparity in pay amongst a section of the council workforce is as a direct result of previous Conservative and Labour administrations’ reluctance, over many years, to grasp this legal nettle and resolve such a difficult problem.
Of course nobody wants to see workers lose wages, and I hope a mutually beneficial comprise can be reached, but at least the Greens have had the guts to attempt to find a solution to this long-running issue where previously neither the Tories nor Labour had the gumption to do so.
