WOOTTON Bassett have appointed Jeff Roberts as their new manager.

He replaces Dave Turner, who left Rylands Way for Shrivenham at the end of the last campaign.

Roberts will be assisted by ex-Bassett player Drew Youngsam, who he worked with at Western League Calne as the pair guided the Bremhill View side to Wiltshire Senior Cup glory in 2011/12.

The immediate goal for the new management team will be to ensure survival in the Hellenic Premier, following Bassett’s promotion.

“I’m pleased to be part of a club with such pedigree that is supported by a strong youth section,” said Roberts, who turned out for Purton amongst others during his playing career.

“The pending new facility (at Ballards Ash) shows ambition for the club, something myself and Drew wish to be part of.”

“We are looking forward to adding our own successes to the club’s history books.”

Bassett chairman Andy Walduck added: “We have had a tough three weeks which in fact has been an emotional process. We have seen some very good potential managers during this time.”

“I’m pleased that Jeff and Drew have accepted the role and I know this will take us forward as a senior section in terms of integration in readiness for our new facility.”
