A sub postmaster is “furious” a water hydrant has been leaking outside a post office for two months, despite numerous complaints.

Alec Biswas complained to Thames Water in April when the hydrant first started gushing water onto the pavement and road outside Ponders End Post Office in High Street.

Engineers came to look at the problem, but Mr Biswas says water has been leaking from the hydrant ever since.

He said: “Every day water is gushing out and there is a huge pool of it outside. Sometimes it's six inches deep. I'm furious - I’ve been trying to get something done about it but nothing’s happening.

“It’s terrible that so much water is being wasted and it’s a health and safety issue. A lot of my customers, especially the elderly, have been getting very annoyed about it because they’re getting wet on their way in.”

Mr Biswas has made several complaints to Thames Water since April.

In a statement Thames Water said: “It appears there is now another leak on the customer’s own pipe. Our engineers are due to go back out again to help get this repaired by the end of this week.”

However Mr Biswas said: “It’s not my pipe. No one has bothered to call me and let me know what is going on. It’s terrible. Water is still gushing out – something needs to be done now.”
