THE economy of Bournemouth relies heavily on its language schools.

Some 50 years ago my wife and I provided accommodation for a number of students from local language schools, and with one student in particular, who is now a retired (German) doctor, we have maintained regular contact and exchange visits.

And I am sure that is the experience of a great many local families.

It is my firm belief that the future of this country lies in Europe.

Not just because of our shared cultural history, but for pressing economic reasons in terms of both Europe being a large market for our exports, but also for inward investment from the rest of the world.

‘Fog in the Channel – Europe cut off from Britain’ may have described the position of this country when our navy appeared to ensure we ruled half the world, but that is no longer relevant.

And the sooner that is realised, the better it will be for ourselves and our European friends and partners. I hope Mr Cameron is listening!
