BOURNEMOUTH’S best performing primary school has cemented its position at the top by being ranked outstanding by Ofsted inspectors.
Staff, pupils and parents at Pokesdown Community Primary School are celebrating after achievement of pupils, quality of teaching, behaviour and safety of pupils and leadership and management were all given the highest grade possible.
Inspectors were on site for two days in February and during their time they observed 26 lessons and met with staff, governors and students.
The Livingstone Road school has 402 pupils between the ages of four and 11 and inspectors said they make outstanding progress, leaving the school with attainment well above the national average.
The Ofsted report said: “The outstanding teaching over the last two years has been the main reason why pupils’ achievement is so much better than at the time of the last inspection.
“Teachers have very high expectations and plan exciting work that makes pupils want to learn and do well. Behaviour in lessons and around the school is exemplary. Pupils enjoy a very rich range of work that interests them and enthuses them to do their very best in lessons.”
Head teacher Vivienne Arkell said: “I am absolutely thrilled and delighted with the whole team – children, parents, staff and governors, who create such a wonderful environment for the children to learn in."
