Car smashes through Pure Gym window Car smashes through Pure Gym window

SHOCKED members of a Bournemouth fitness centre had a “miraculous” escape after a sports car crashed through the gym’s main window as they worked out.

The Toyota Celica GT ploughed into PureGym, sending glass flying and ending up among exercise equipment on Friday night.

Recovery workers attending the scene the following day said it was a miracle nobody was seriously injured.

Seconds after the car smashed through the window, at around 11.30pm, two women were spotted jumping from the vehicle and fleeing the scene.

Police said two women were helping police with their inquiries.

Pure Gym spokesman Katie Matthews said: “Thankfully, nobody was hurt during the incident, but extensive damage was caused to the windows at the front of the building and to several pieces of equipment within.

“PureGym will be closed over the weekend and possibly into early next week, as we repair the damaged caused.

“We have our emergency team working around the clock to make the necessary repairs and we have replacement kit for the damaged items on their way. We will have the club reopened as soon as we can, and of course when it is safe to do so.”

The popular gym, where members can access the premises via a key code, operates at The Triangle 24 hours a day.

Police sealed off a section of The Triangle on Saturday lunchtime to allow recovery of the silver car.

Onlooker Jason Knight was among the people watching the recovery. He told the Echo: “I cannot believe someone was actually able to get the car in there. It must have given those people working out one hell of a shock.”

Another astonished onlooker, who asked not to be named, said: “I bet whoever was working out on the cross trainers saw their heart rates go through the roof when that thing smashed its way in. It’s amazing nobody has been hurt.”

Wasn't it recognised on the PNC when you queried that computer record of all UK registration numbers? Didn't the database have an address where you could contact the owner of the Toyota?

If the police no longer maintain the Police National Computer how come DVLA know where to send out road tax reminders?

Yes Turtlebay that system is in operation still, however it is only useful when the driver returns home (the registered address) if they are canny they will bide there time elsewhere to give time for booze/drugs etc. To clear their system (if that is the caso of course) then speak to the police.

Officers flooded the area in a bid to trace the pair, but no arrests have been made so far.

All 5 of them.

Why did they go to get help?
There were people in the gym, I assume that at least one of the ladies had a mobile phone, there are phones at the gym.
They didn't NEED to go to get help as it was on its way and all they had to do was wait for it.
ANYBODY who does a runner from an accident makes people suspicious.

I drive this road daily and at no time have I ever 'smashed' through any window. Dress it up anyway you like but bad driving/speeding has to be at the bottom of this incident. Glad all are involved are unhurt but the driver should accept their mistake and move on! For future reference the correct thing to do is wait until the emergency services have dealt with you and the incident. This would prevent people from making up their own stories.

Some people are so lazy, they can't even walk from the car park to the gym.

Who said women are no good at parking?,spectacular stuff.
On a more serious note,I am a member of this gym,I'm very pleased nobody was hurt, but I suspect the equipment in front of the windows might not be quite so popular in future. The gym has numerous cctv cameras,so the action video will be worth seeing.

It has nothing to do with roadconditions, maybe speed.

Look at it this way. 11:30 on a Friday night, what are most people doing in town then. Drinking say no more which explains why they crashed on a clear stretch of road that only someone on drink or drugs could have done.
