Rosie Adams, a PhD student at Durham University, has been selected to present her scientific research to Parliament as part of a national competition. The 23-year-old research about the growth of colon cancer cells is to be presented to a panel of politicians and expert judges after being shortlisted in the Set For Britain science competition, which has a top prize of £3,000.
STUDYING ABROAD: Around 100 sixth form students from as far afield as Morpeth and Guisborough have attended a regional conference on studying abroad. Universities from Belgium, the Netherlands, the Republic of Ireland, China and USA were represented at the convention held at Durham Johnston School.
GLOBAL WARMING: Malcolm Reid, from Greenpeace North East, delivered a lecture on the charity’s work across the globe at East Durham College’s Houghall Campus, in Durham City. The lecture included an outline of Greenpeace’s latest ‘Save the Arctic’ campaign, which aims to halt climate change and prevent further drilling for oil in areas of melting polar ice caps.
