Darlington have apologised to supporters after failing to produce a programme for Wednesday's 4-0 win against Shildon.

Some fans were angered when they discovered there was no programme as the club had made a decision not to print one in fear of the match being postponed.

A club statement read: "Darlington Football Club would like to apologise for the lack of programme, and for any inconvenience or upset.

"At the point on Tuesday when the decision had to be taken on whether or not to print the programme we were advised that the game had almost no chance of going ahead, due to a combination of lying snow, many frozen areas of the pitch and a poor forecast.

"On Wednesday morning, we were kindly loaned both an industrial heater and the 'Super Soaker' from Marske United. The use of these, and the tireless work by staff and volunteers, enabled the game to go ahead at short notice.

"Unfortunately though, there was no time to produce an insert, because the programme is put together by voluntary, hard-working and unpaid supporters who, because they were working in their normal, paid jobs, had no time to produce a substitute on this occasion."

Darlington are at sixth-placed Ashington tomorrow (3pm) and their next game at Heritage Park is on Wednesday versus Celtic Nation (7.30pm).
