Event highlights support available for victims of domestic abuse

AN event raising awareness of domestic abuse, sexual violence and child trafficking has taken place in Poole to coincide with International Women’s Day.

Bournemouth and Poole’s domestic abuse and sexual violence co-ordinator Lisa Dowry joined representatives from Soroptomist House, which provides accommodation to vulnerable women, on an information stand at the Dolphin shopping centre on Friday.

Lisa said: “The aim was to make people aware of the support that’s available to victims of domestic abuse, sexual offences and trafficking.”

It was organised by the Safer Poole Partnership.

According to a Ministry of Justice report, published in January, around one in five women, aged 16-59, have reported being a victim of a sexual offence since the age of 16. For information, including organisations that support victims, visit poolepartnership.info/domestic-abuse
