No horse meat in students' dinners, says head teacher

A HEADMASTER has reassured parents that all the meat in his school is traceable back to the farm.

Head Ian Carter said in a letter to parents that the Poole Grammar was a Food for Life Partnership school which had already taken steps to minimise risks in the food system.

He said all meat served at the school met the Food for Life Silver Award criteria and fulfilled the requirements for UK Assured Food Standards.

“These standards ensure that all meat is traceable back to the farm and meets the UK minimum welfare standards, and as 75 per cent of food we are serving to pupils is freshly prepared, we are also reducing reliance on processed food,” Mr Carter wrote.

He said the horse meat issue had exposed “two major flaws” in the food system, which were “the lack of traceability of meat and the over-reliance on processed foods”.

Almost every school across the county will have issued a statement like this to parents - and weeks ago. Hampshire CC issued a statement on 21st Feb.

Why does Poole Grammer get special treatment. Maybe the school just has a good (but slow) PR department.

I would expect the Grammar School to have a good stable diet.
