Jailed: 20 years for "sexual predator" Kenneth Freemantle

Kenneth Freemantle Kenneth Freemantle

A SERIAL sexual abuser who assaulted women and girls in the Poole area for three decades has been jailed for 20 years this morning.

Kenneth Freemantle, 56, of Fortuneswell, Portland, was found guilty of two rapes, 10 indecent assaults and one sexual assault at Bournemouth Crown Court in January.

He had pleaded not guilty to the historic allegations, some of which involved girls under the age of 18.

All of his victims are now adults, and cannot be identified for legal reasons.

The court heard how one of his young victims was given a sexually transmitted disease after she was raped by Freemantle.

In her evidence, she said he made her feel “worthless”.

Another victim said he punched her in the face, giving her a black eye, which Freemantle claimed was the result of “an accident during play fighting”.

The injury was so serious that she was forced to seek hospital treatment.

She told the court during the trial: “I was so embarrassed - I felt ashamed.”

In all, Freemantle was convicted of 13 counts and his sentences ranged from 14 years to 12 months.

He will serve a 14-year and a six-year sentence consecutively and the other sentences will run concurrently.

Freemantle’s victims were in tears in court as the sentence was handed down.

Judge Peter Johnson said: “You, it seems to me Freemantle, have no sexual boundaries whatsoever. You have been and remain a sexual predator.

“The normal standards of behaviour applicable in society do not seem to apply to you, so you think.”

Freemantle was also handed an indefinite sexual offences prevention order.

How do these people manage to offend for such long periods of time before being brought to justice! Its shocking.

Hopefully the good thing to come out of the recent press about such sex offenders is that the victims will feel more empowered to come forward quicker, and more likely to be believed

Because it's so hard for the police to act. When was the last time we read about a pervert with just one victim getting justice? We keep seeing people like this, many victims spanning many years, finally getting banged up, and the public ask how they are able to get away with it for years. The police need to be ABLE do more when things are reported the FIRST time. Not sit and wait for more crimes committed, victims to come forward, and evidence to drop in their laps.

Then we are amazed when we see a perverts body in a suitcase. That case has more questions than answers for the public. Like why was a man sentenced to 10 years for rape, freed on licence after 6 years, broke the terms of that licence, and sent back to jail for not even the remainder of his sentence? Beggars belief!

Jailed for 20 years. Means out in 10. It is time that we were told what the actual length of time off the streets will be.

These people always seem to use the same modus operandi - pick a young victim , abuse and try to cover up their vile acts with threats of the victim not being believed or they will never see their family again, etc. This guy has abused over a long period of time. At least the judge who passed sentence has taken this into account and made sure that he,s under lock and key for a long time so as to not ruin any more lives. Thumbs up to the judge i say, something positive from the judicial system for a change
