Residents invited to flood protection event
3:00pm Sunday 10th March 2013 in News
CHRISTCHURCH residents concerned about flood protection are invited to attend a special event on March 23.
The Flood Awareness Fair will take place at the Civic Offices between 10.30am and 3.30pm.
People are welcome to attend and talk to exhibitors who will include Christchurch Borough Council, The Environment Agency, Dorset County Council’s flood risk management team, the National Flood Forum and Dorset Fire and Rescue.
Information will be available to help people identify if they are at risk and, if they are, how they can make preparations to reduce the effect of flooding. This includes advice about what steps to take, such as producing a personal flood plan, flood insurance and information about what flood protection products are available.
The National Flood Forum will also have examples of these products.
Steve Woolard, coastal engineering team leader at Christchurch council, said: “With the increasing instances of extreme weather we’ve experienced recently, we know that many people will be concerned about the possible dangers of flooding from various sources.
“The last time we held an event like this many people found it helpful to come and discuss their own situation with experts.
“This event will give another opportunity to anyone looking at ways of mitigating against the threat of flooding.”
