13 children and counting: TV date for Bournemouth’s biggest family
THEY are one of Bournemouth’s biggest and best known families and soon they will be gracing our TV screens again.
For Pete and Tracy Lewis who have 13 children and nine grandchildren (plus one on the way) will be appearing in a TV show, exploring the lives of some of Britain’s biggest families.
The seven-week series called 16 Kids and Counting starts on Channel 4 tomorrow and the Lewises of West Parley, feature in the weeks three and four due to be aired on March 19 and 26.
Tracy, 49, said: “We had a camera crew follow us around for about four months. I try to ignore them as much as I can and just get on with what I’m doing.
“It is good fun and I think it’s lovely that people are still interested after all these years.”
Tracy and her husband Pete started making the headlines in the Daily Echo when their own personal baby boom reached ten, and went on to attract national and international publicity when they had three more children.
It is the second time the family has starred in the series. Last year they were featured in 15 Kids and Counting.
The couple who have always worked and never had outside help with their family, have 12 daughters and one son children aged between nine and 29.
Their one son, Charles, is due to become a father with the birth of his first baby in April which be grandchild number ten for Tracy and Pete.
“Apparently they are having a boy which will help to balance it up a bit,” laughs Tracy.
In the new show Tracy visits the Daily Echo office to place an ad to celebrate her daughter Candice’s 21st birthday.
Tracy is then seen visiting the Echo’s archives and looking at all the photos and newspaper articles about her brood.
She adds: “People often stop and ask me for childcare advice now. I have even had people ask for my autograph but I just laugh it off!”
