Out and about with Community Cars
12:30pm Saturday 2nd March 2013 in News
A “KIND, caring and compassionate” transport service is available to any Bournemouth residents who need help getting out and about.
Community Cars is a service run by a team of volunteer drivers who use their own cars to pick people up and take them to appointments, visits to local clubs and even the hairdressers.
The service is run by Sedcat and mileage is charged at 55p per mile, calculated from the driver’s home.
The minimum charge is £4 and the service is available to anyone living in postcode areas BH1 to BH11 who is unable to use public transport.
Jean, a member of Community Cars, uses the service to get to the hairdressers and her GP surgery. She said: “Without Diana, my driver, calling for me and taking me out it would be far more expensive using a taxi.
“But most importantly, Diana is now my friend and I know that when she calls I will not be rushed and we’ll have time for a chat.”
