A SHANTY singing evening will raise funds to fit out Lyme Regis Gig Club’s third vessel and the building of the Youth Section’s new skiff.

It is at the Harbour Inn on Friday, March 1 at 8.30pm.

Club chairman Marcus Dixon said: “The Shanty Singers are very much part of Lyme Regis Gig Club, both magically transporting us back into our maritime history with these rolling songs of the sea, and into the future with the beautiful new shanties written by Sue Beckers to mark the launch of each of our three wooden gigs.”

The Shanty Singers will be joined by the singing group Slipstream. Marcus said: “Lyme Regis Gig Club is continuing to develop both to fit out our latest gig Tempest and the growing Youth Section and the first 15ft sea skiff we are building this year.

“The Shanty Singing evening is to raise funds and I very much hope people will be able to join us at 8.30pm on Friday, March 1 for some great singing and great fun.”
