Car parks top of redevelopment list for Bourmemouth Development Company

THE partnership tasked with implementing Bournemouth’s town centre master vision has provided details of the next sites it hopes to redevelop.

The Bournemouth Development Company is due to start development on the Leyton Mount and Madeira Road car park sites shortly after securing permission and financing.

And it will also look to commence “site appraisal” of seven more car parks this year, with a view to bringing them forward for development.

There are plans for a health or care-use led scheme on Durley Road or Berry Court car parks, family housing at West Hill, a mixed use scheme at Glen Fern, residential or employment-led use at St Stephens and Richmond Hill and a mixed use scheme at Cotlands Road.

It also intends to look at the Winter Gardens site this year, despite the fact that a private developer is currently trying to secure planning permission for a mix of flats, hotel, cinema, shops, restaurants and public piazza there.

Winter Gardens, flats??? Improve but no building please!
The car parks at the back of and adjacent to the Imax? Why on earth are they in these prime locations. Redevelop these with gardens & terraces, restaurant, cafes.

I think it's too late for new car parks, the damage has been done in Bournemouth, it all went downhill when the pier flyover was first built, it has gradually got worse from there, no turning back.

I agree with you about the pier flyover but what is the connection with car parks?

Because its the PEOPLE'S LAND that this council is flogging off, they were supposed to be looking after our interest instead of lining their pockets with back handers, who has been brought to account for the '' surf reef, the imax'' and all the other failed projects.

6os & 70s you could park almost anywhere without being fleeced, now parking meters are all over the seafront and the car parks that are left are deemed unfordable to most, councils have alienated the motorist yet they are the ones that bring the money in, if they cant park near to where they want to be at an affordable price they will go elsewhere.
I never go to Bournemouth but I will go to Swanage, Weymouth and many other places where I can get relatively near the sea front.
Pier flyover,no parking spaces, high parking charges, parking meters pedestrianization, imax, surf reefs, night clubs and vomit covered pavements have made Bournemouth a laughing stock, it's not a nice place to visit anymore.

Pier flyover ! ! !

Are some folk absolutely barking. Take that away and you will have traffic queueing back along the Wessex Way - bith ways !

ps I expect we will get the usual council apologists squeaking on here again about my 'conspiracy theories' when I warned about the council building on car parks - over two years ago.

Wait till you see what they have lined up for the Bath Hill carpark/Imax.

I think you'll find that happens now anyway, so not much difference.

It would be nice to see one developement with finance in place and work in progress before any more grandiose schemes are thought up.Still, I suppose they have to spout something to the Echo otherwise we'd think that all the visionaries aren't worth the money we are paying them.

Getting rid of seven car parks?! Does the so-called Master Vision also include future provision for people actually having the audacity to come to Bournemouth by car?

So demolish the iMAX at a cost of millions to restore the sea view then allow a developer to build a development higher up Ricmond hill next to it. ..to block the view again. Did we really elect these bozos in to run the town?

Charge for parking - Retail dies.

Why not this novel idea: spend 20 quid and parking is free???
