OWNERS of commercial vehicles have been put on alert after police arrested two men in Dorchester.

Two local males, aged 21 and 22, were arrested in the early hours of this morning after a witness reported a van being broken into in Cambridge Road.

Deputy Inspector at Dorchester Police Station Steve Foot said two men were seen breaking into the vehicle by smashing rear windows at around 1.45am and the arrests were made a short time later following a police search.

He added: “Commercial type vans and trades vehicles are quite susceptible and if thieves are out there looking for power tools from commercial vehicles the key message is for builders and trades people to mark their power tools appropriately.

“We would also say to anyone buying power tools to make a note of the serial number so if unfortunately they do ever get stolen they have got the details of those serial numbers and we can record them and make checks if we come across any property in the future.”

The two men who were arrested were taken into custody and are helping police with their enquiries.
