Car fire closes A338 both ways

THE A338 was closed both ways at lunchtime due to a car fire.

Both carriageways were closed around 2pm while firefighters dealt with the blaze northbound between Blackwater Junction at Hurn and the Ashley Heath roundabout.

It is believed one lane is still closed.

The vehicle was just past Blackwater junction and police were called to deal with traffic.

A spokesperson for Dorset Fire and Rescue said crews from Springbourne, Christchurch and Ringwood attended the incident.

No-one was injured.

What is it with that flipping road that vehicles seem to self ignite with monotonous regularity?

No point blaming the road my dear ! its the ignorant drivers who just use and abuse their vehicles and never service them. No wonder the car had enough and gave up and spontaneous combusted to get away from its abuser!

What's the betting if they do decode to re do the Spur Road as is in another story today, they won't do a thing about this notorious dodgy junction? At least get rid of that mound of shrubbery on the Westbound junction.

I beg to differ there, whilst I agree poor maintenance of vehicles can cause fires there are many other reasons too, plus age is no barrier brand new cars have burst into flames too

Maybe they should use the £22 million to pay for fire extinguishers and automatic JCB car removers.
